ALLENSTOWN -- John E. "Gunny" Hood III died Nov. 5, 2010, at Concord Hospital.He was born in Stoneham, Mass., to John E. and Catherine (Pickerelli) Hood. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic for more than 40 years, most recently working at Perfect Fit Industries doing security and maintenance.He was a cross country track star, played the drums in a band called Hush, was an Eagle Scout and troop leader and a lifguard.In 1980, he tried out for the New England Patriots as a barefoot kicker. He was well known for his holiday decorations his favorite being Halloween. He was very involved in the Children's Miracle Network in the Allenstown Rite Aide.He is survived by his significant other of 24 years.SERVICES: Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.Donations may be made to Children's Miracle Network, 205 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101.
