John-Dwight Smith, spouse of Elizabeth Betty, father of Ted, died on October 19, 2001.
SMITH John Dwight Smith passed away October 19, 2001 at The Hadlow Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, John came to Florida in 1969. An accountant in the medical field, he worked for National Medical Enterprises at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. for over 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone during the 1950s. In the early 1970s, John was a Cub Scoutmaster in Clearwater, Fla., but for the past 30 years his primary community activity was constant involvement with youth baseball programs including The Babe Ruth League in Clearwater and the Mandarin Athletic Association in Jacksonville. He was a team scorekeeper known to the players as Smitty during his 26 years in Clearwater. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth (Betty) of Jacksonville; his son Ted Smith and wife Kathy, also of Jacksonville; and two granddaughters Madison and Haley.
