John Dean Langford, 89, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. John was born March 31, 1920, in Arcadia, Fla., and raised in Limestone. He was the fifth of eight children of the late Henry Preston Langford Sr. and Ida Beulah Langford. John attended Limestone School and Hardee County High School. He married Ida Mae Stone in 1952. John pastored Baptist churches in and around DeSoto County including Gardner, Limestone, Myakka City, Ona, Bethany, North Hillsborough and Brownville. John served as head custodian at West Elementary School for 27 years. He owned an orange grove, raised bees and processed honey. John loved to grow plants, fish, hunt, sing, tell stories and play checkers. John and Ida Mae moved to Panama City Beach, Fla., in 2002 to live near their children and grandchildren. Marlene East, their daughter, owns East Counseling Services. Their son, Kevin Langford, is a talented musician and owns K&M Woodworks. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ida Mae Langford; daughter, Marlene and husband, Ray East; son, Kevin Langford and spouse, Margie; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Allison Lague, Brian Lague, Jennifer, Lily and Caden Mefford, Raymond East III, Colin and Jaden Sappington; siblings, Allie Wright and Remer Langford; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services are coordinated by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia. Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 6 to 7 p.m. for family and 7 to 9 p.m. for friends. The funeral is 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Arcadia with burial following at Joshua Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Greg George will officiate. Pallbearers will be the Langford nephews. A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Gulf Beach Baptist Church in Panama City Beach.
