John D. Fernandezof Bainbridge, N.Y.John D. Fernandez, 73, of Bainbridge, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born December 4, 1932, son of the late John C. and Margaret (DeJoy) Fernandez in Shelton, Conn. John served his country in the United States Army; after an honorable discharge he married Ann L. Sabre on September 28, 1957 at St. Peter's Church in Bridgeport, Conn. He was employed as a heavy machine operator for the State Department of Transportation in Bainbridge when he retired in 1995. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Bainbridge and stalwart member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4937 in Sidney. John was an activist for the Right to Life and helped open a Birthright Chapter in Sidney. He is survived by wife, Ann Fernandez, Bainbridge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and Joseph Farrow, Earlville, Robin Fernandez, Bainbridge; one son, Guy Fernandez, Binghamton; five grandchildren, Holly, Beth and Devin Fernandez and Zachary and Troy Goodier; and many nieces and nephews. John is also predeceased by three children, John, Lisa and Jerry Joseph; and a brother, Joseph.The praying of the rosary will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Visitation will follow from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Bainbridge. Rev. Fr. Robert Dwyer will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church.
