Obituary of John-Crawford Elliott

ELLIOTT, John Crawford - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on Thursday, September 10th, 2009, in his 85th year. Devoted, loving husband and best friend of Nancy (nee Alexander), and the late Isabel (nee Lewis). John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children John Elliott and fiancé Judy; Mark Elliott and wife, Krys; and Jim Stratton. Grandfather to Jonathan, Daniel and Cassandra Elliott, and Chelsea and Michela Stratton. Predeceased by his parents John Robert Elliott and Fanny (nee Williams) Elliott and his sister, Margaret Purdon. John worked for 37 years as the Executive Director of the Family and Children's Services of the Niagara Region (FACS) until his retirement in 1990. John guided the creation of FACS through the amalgamation of the Region's Children's Aid agencies. As the result of his dedication, innovation and commitment, this non-profit Agency experienced enormous growth in workforce, volunteerism, client services and family resources, over the course of his career. John will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather; a mentor, advisor, trusted confidant and guide; and an extremely accomplished gardener. By the many children, now grown, who, over the span of his career, attended the Family and Children's Services Christmas Party, he will be remembered with great fondness and delight, as Santa Claus. Internment has already taken place. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines (905-684-6346), at 3:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, with a reception to follow, at St. Georges Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Memorial tributes may be made at www.mem.com.
