John C. Pianko Jr. April 11, 1927 - November 25, 2009 Norwich - John C. Pianko Jr. 82, of Pratte Ave. Taftville died Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 11, 1927 in Norwich son of the late John and Stella (Petrowski) Pianko. On May 17, 1947 he was married to Theresa Benac in Sacred Heart Church in Taftville. She died April 14, 2009. Mr. Pianko first worked at the Themos Co. and then US Finishing. He retired from EB in Groton as a general foreman in 1989. He was a US Navy veteran. As an avid golfer he was a member of the Norwich Golf Course and then a member of the Pautipaug Country Club. Survivors include two daughters Barbara Rushford of Taftville, Jacquie Burzycki of Griswold, seven grandchildren Daniel St. Germain, Tina Rivero, Laurie Beres, Nicole Ross, Robert Rushford, Jessica Burzycki and Seth Burzycki and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Marie St. Germain on July 6, 2009. He leaves behind many good friends including his best friend of more than 50 years Arthur Aldi. The funeral will assemble Monday at 9 AM at the Guillot Funeral Home 75 South B St. Taftville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Church in Taftville. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Norwich. Calling hours are Sunday 5 to 7 PM.
