Obituary of John-Arthur Anderson


JOHN ARTHUR (ART) ANDERSON John Arthur (Art) Anderson, 83, of Bergland, Ont., passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 11, 2005 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. He was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Bergland to the late John and Maria Anderson. Art attended school in Bergland, then at the age of 15 started working with local commercial fishermen, first for Val Fadden and later for John Quick and Ernie Pentney. On May 10, 1947, Art was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson. They lived in Spohn Township for 14 years, where he owned and operated his own pulp truck. Around that period of time, he started to guide on nearby lakes while at home he started farming and raising cattle. Beyond their farm work, he also spent a lot of his time logging in the bush for many years. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl and Einar Anderson; one sister, Agnes Kivi; daughter-in-law, Diane Anderson; and son-in-law, John Daoust. Art is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy, of Bergland, Ont.; four children, Ellen and husband, Daryl Gaudry, of East Selkirk, Man., and Tanya Daoust and Adrian Versluis, John Anderson, and Glenn Anderson and wife, Peggy, all of Bergland, Ont.; nine grandchildren, Justin Gaudry and Jeremy (Kari) Gaudry, Darren Daoust (Tamara) and John Paul Daoust (Monika), Amy and Dylan Anderson, and Meagan, Daniel and Paige Anderson; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Daoust, and Tanner and Mackena Gaudry. Also surviving is one sister, Selma Nagy of South Junction, Man.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland. Pastor Roland Schoepf and Mrs. Carolyn Kreger officiated, with interment in Bergland Cemetery in Bergland. The pallbearers were Darren Daoust, John Paul Daoust, Justin Gaudry, Jeremy Gaudry, Meagan Anderson, Amy Anderson, and Don Larsen. The honourary pallbearers were B.J. Novotny, Jim McLean, Stanley Sandmoen, Harry Storkson, Conrad Berglund, Melvin Kallstrom, Leonard Larsen, Dylan Anderson, and Daniel Anderson. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society—Rainy River Branch, Box 573, Rainy River, Ont., P0W 1L0, or the Rainy River Health Centre, P.O. Box 236, Rainy River, Ont., P0W 1L0.
