RATHBONE, John A. III "Jake" Age 61, of Horseheads, and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Jake was born John Arnot Rathbone III on March 26, 1947, a son to the late John A. Rathbone II "Jack" and F. Jane Dickson Rathbone Hungerford. Jake is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, W. Dickson and Nancy Rathbone, Roswell, GA; nephew, Matthew Dickson Rathbone; aunt, Marilyn Liebenguth of Larchmont, NY; and several cousins, including Bob and Maggie Reynolds and Jack Reynolds, all of Fort Meyers, FL; as well as a host of extended family members and friends, including Ray and Sue Cady of Naples, FL, Mike Lowery of Big Flats, NY, and Tommy Moretti of Elmira, NY. Jake was a retired sales manager with Nabisco Corp. and a regular member of Fur Fin and Feather's in Chemung, member of the Elmira Country Club in Elmira and Hunters Ridge Country Club in Bonita Springs, FL, Ruffed Grouse Society, Chemung County Historical Society and the Keuka Lake Association. His passions included, wintering in Florida, Wednesday night at Moretti's Restaurant, Thursday Night F.F.F. and summers on Keuka Lake which many times included regular stops on the lake to visit friends and acquaintances. Being fond of auto racing, NASCAR and Vintage Road Racing, Jake always looked forward to his "Crew Chief duties" for his brother's vintage road race team. He was also a member of the Historic Sportscar Racing Association. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, from 5-8:00 p.m. His funeral service will take place in Grace Episcopal Church, 375 W. Church St., Elmira, NY, on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Han Van den Blink officiating. Interment will take place beside his father in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Jake with memorials in his name to the Keuka Lake Association, PO Box 35, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
