BARTOW, Ga. - Mr. John Archibald McMillan, III (Johnny Mac), 87, beloved husband of Patsy Gross McMillan, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, with his wife by his side.A life long resident of Bartow, Ga., born April 14, 1927.He was a retired Rural Mail Carrier of 37 years. He attended the University of Georgia before enlisting in the Armed Forces during World War II, and again as a veteran. He was wounded in France during the battle of Normandy and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Patsy, a daughter, Cheryl Berry (Earl) of Dallas, TX., and a son; John (Jack) McMillan IV, (Charlotte) of Nebo N.C., four grandchildren: Leah McMillan York (Michael) of Athens, Ga., Lesley McMillan Olsommer (Michael) of Anderson, SC., Scott McMillan Berry of Dallas,TX, Kristen Brooke Berry of Los Angeles, CA.; 4 great grandchildren;Caden M. Olsommer, Corley M. Olsommer, Alexander M. York, and Elizabeth McMillan York, and a host of very dear nephews, nieces. Brothers in law, sisters in law; Dr. Z.B. Gross (Ann) of Clearwater FL, Wayne S. Gross of Clearwater FL, Ms. Peggy Young, Clearwater, FL.He valued his loyal friends through the years with much joy.John was preceded in death by his father, John A. McMillan, II, his mother, Laura Leah Salters, sisters and brothers in law, Harriette Camp and Col. Pierce Camp; Laura Carriker and Mark Carriker; brother, Charles Salter McMillan (Bud) and Margie McMillan.Blessed with a natural quick wit and sense of humor, he left us many wonderful memories and stories.John was a long standing member of the Bartow Baptist Church (the oldest male member).He was an avid reader, sports enthusiast, and a great Georgia Football fan. He enjoyed his workshop and woodworking and in his younger days he was a hunter. His pets always knew they had it made. The simple things in life such as his morning coffee, newspaper, love of family, friends, country, God and his hometown couldn't be topped.A military graveside service will be held in the Bartow Cemetery, Friday, November 18, 2011 at 2:00 with Reverend Tom Harrison and Reverend Paul Harris officiating.Friends are invited to attend a reception and meet with the family after the service at the Bartow Baptist Church.The family will also receive friends at home.In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to the; Wounded Warrior Project, Attn. Advanced Guard 4899 Belfort Rd.
