John Allen Williams, 83, of Seymour passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, with his family by his side.John was born in Seymour on Dec. 31, 1928, the son of the late Arthur Charles (Jack) Williams and Annas Steinberger Williams.He was a member of Central Christian Church, Seymour. He graduated from Shields High School in 1947. He then attended both Hanover College and Ball State University where he joined Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.John had been manager for Sherwin Williams Paint Store in Seymour and then worked for Hoosier Auto Parts, where he retired after many years of service.After retirement, John would spend his time relaxing with the family, working in his wood working shop and playing golf.John loved his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served the military from 1948 to 1952.On Aug. 15, 1954, he married Alice Mae (Pinky) Rodman in Seymour.John was active in community, as he was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge 146 F&AM, Seymour Jaycees and the American Legion Post 89.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pinky; four children, Thomas R. Williams, Susan A. (John) Ponder, Jane E. (Roger) Waggoner and Joseph A. Williams; five grandchildren, Jessica (Geoffrey) Ponder Talbert, Jill Waggoner, Erin Waggoner, Daniel Waggoner, and Carley Williams; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sophia Talbert; and a sister, Maxine (Curt) Patrick.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard G. (Dick) Lauf.Funeral service for Mr. Williams will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Wright officiating.Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. until time of service.Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, with a full military graveside honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans, Korean and the Vietnam Veterans.Memorials may be written to Central Christian Church or Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center.A Masonic Memorial service will be held at Voss Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
