Obituary of John-Allen Boole


STATESBORO - John Allen Boole, retired professor and veteran, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born on December 14, 1921, in Onancock, Va. He worked in the Newport News shipyard and served in the Navy during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, his Master of Science degree in Botany at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1955, he moved his family to Statesboro to accept a teaching position at Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University). He retired from Georgia Southern College in 1988. He was a charter member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Burt Boole. Survivors include two daughters, Coleen and Connie Boole; a son, Barry Boole; and a grandson, Bryan Gottfried. A memorial is planned in his beloved mountains this summer.
