John A. O'Dwyer, 65, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at the Montclair Manor in Montclair. The funeral is from the Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Rd., North Arlington, on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m., thence to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, North Arlington, for the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Born in Newark, John lived in Bloomfield before moving to Montclair in 1998. He was a guard for the Essex County Jail in Caldwell for over 20 years before retiring. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 711, both of Bloomfield. He was the beloved son of the late John J. and Katherine (nee Miller) O'Dwyer; the dear brother of Sister Anita O'Dwyer S.S.J., Robert O'Dwyer and his wife, Bonnie, and the late William O'Dwyer; the cherished uncle of Darlene Kelly, Christine Morais, William, Christopher, and Patrick O'Dwyer, and five great-nieces and nephews.
