Athens - Joe passed away after a long illness August 22, 2005. He graduated from Winterville High School with honors in 1955. As a young man fresh out of high school his first job was at the Varsity in Athens which started his career and passion for the restaurant business. In 1956, he moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he was employed by Steak and Shake and became a manager of the beachside store. Joe moved back to Athens in 1976, owned and managed several restaurants in the Athens area. The Old Hickory, The Snack Shack, Rebel Burger, The Dairy Delight, and Huberts Bar and Grill. He also worked for The Grill in Athens in the '80s.Joe was preceded in death by Young Monroe Williams (Dad Williams) and Roberta Isabella Williams (Maw-Ma Williams).Survivors include wife, Marilyn Lou Williams, daughter Debra June Gordy both of Athens, sons Michael Scott Williams of Gainesville, Jeffrey Todd Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters and brother Shirley Jean and Kenny Lamar Smith of Atlanta and Patricia Elaine Williams of Athens; grandchildren, Alana Chrystal Gordy of Athens, Amanda Michelle and Jennifer Nicole Williams of Sparr, Florida; nieces and nephews Kim Smith of Oglethorpe County, Kevin Smith of Atlanta, Bridgett Bates, Kristi Fitzpatrick, and Greg Bryant of Sandy Cross; grandnieces Kayla and Brittany Streetman.In lieu of flowers, donation for Burial Expenses would be greatly appreciated.
