Joanne (Joan Moira) McDonald - With great sadness we announce the passing of Joanne McDonald on May 30, 2013. Joanne was born to William Bernard and Josephine Theresa McDonald on January 6, 1930, in Vancouver, BC. Joanne was the last surviving member of her family; she was predeceased by her parents, brothers: Noel (Mickey), Bill (Mary) and sisters: Eileen (John Foran), Genevieve, Loretta (John McLachlan), and Anita (Richard W. Rudy and Edward Van Steenvoort), as well as by her dear friend, Maureen Magee. In 1957, Joanne left Vancouver for Los Angeles to continue her career with Mutual of Omaha, with Maureen by her side. The two remained there until 1994, when they retired and returned home to Vancouver to be closer to family and friends. Joanne and Maureen cared greatly for the friendships they had made in school, and they all remained in close contact -even those who lived in other States and Provinces?until the end. Joanne is survived by many nieces: Louise (George) Gibson, Sheila Foran, Soozi Monahan, Laura Rudy, Patty Busswood (Bill Lin), Paula (John) Kinzie, Martha (Tom) Gillier, Eileen (Nick) Bako, and nephews: David McLachlan, Bill McDonald, Mark (Stacy) Rudy, Ian (Karen) McDonald, many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Christy Nora, Joanne's companion and care-giver of three years, for all of the help and compassion she offered Joanne. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 5457 Trafalgar Street, Vancouver B.C. Father Terry Bileski Celebrant and Joanne's cousin, Father Dennis McDonald, Concelebrant. Inurnment to take place at Oceanview Cemetery, Burnaby, BC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant House as this was Joanne's charity of choice.
