R.N., (Lt. (NS) WWII 1942 - 45) (nee MacDonald) It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Joanne on Thursday, March 6, 2003. She was "Mum" to her 7 children and to those who, by marriage, recognized her as the heart of the family. Joanne passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus after a brief illness. Prior to her admission to the hospital, she had enjoyed several weeks as a resident at the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre. Joanne was a WWII veteran, serving as a Canadian Army nursing sister in England, France and Belgium. Joanne leaves in deep sorrow her husband of 57 1/2 years, Andre; her sister Kay MacDonald; her daughters Louise Lemieux-Charles of Toronto, Adele Tuckey of New Zealand and Anne Breslow (and Arieh) of Israel; 4 sons, Charles (and Suzanne) of Ottawa, Francois (and Marjory) of Ile aux Allumettes, Pierre (and Geli) of Vancouver and Conrad (and Rita) of Toronto; 12 grandchildren, Jean-Michel, Nicole, Pierre, Anne-Marie, Joanne, Catherine, Michele, Nick, Stefan, Leah, Amira, and Merav; and 1 great-grandson, Gabriel. The family will receive friends at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa, on Sunday, March 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 10 at 11 a.m. at l'eglise St-Remi, 2821 Dumaurier Avenue, Ottawa. In memory of Joanne donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family wishes to express appreciation to the very kind and helpful team of caregivers at the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre and the doctors, nurses and other professionals at the Ottawa Hospital.
