WIENS, Joanne Christine (MacDonald) Passed away on November 25, 2008. Joanne was born on June 1, 1935, in Calgary and graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1953. Joanne's numerous contributions to her church, family and her community, leave a legacy of love. She is deeply treasured by more people than we can name, and each soul she touched, now reaches out to join the touch of the Holy Spirit, to make this world a better place. There was never a time that she did not place others ahead of herself, and this was most true when it came to her role as wife and mother and grandmother. Joanne was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, but with great faith in Christ and personal strength of character, was able to bear up under the disabling effects of her illness for many years. In February 2007, Joanne moved to the Father Lacombe Nursing Home, where she was received as a well-loved member of their community. Their devotion and compassion brought solace to the family. Joanne is survived by Abram Jacob Wiens, her loving husband of fifty-one years; by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Sheldon Wiens-Sorge and Sandi and Jim Morris, and their families; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Donna MacDonald of Edmonton, AB. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christena MacDonald. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, at First Church of the Nazarene, 65 Richard Way S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 7M8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, or to the Parkinson's Society of Southern Alberta, (102 - 5636 Burbank Crescent S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1Z6).
