BENNINGTON - Joann D. Carter, 62, died Oct. 11, 2009, at her residence, with ALS disease. She was born in Gloversville, N.Y., Dec. 27, 1946, the daughter of Flora (Pantalone) and Florian Sollak Sr., and received her education in local schools.She married Francis Carter June 26, 1976, in Johnstown, N.Y.In earlier years, Mrs. Carter was employed at the former Gates Mills Factory in Johnstown.She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.She enjoyed bingo, shopping and crafts. Survivors include her husband, Francis Carter of Bennington; their children, BobbiJo Morway of Gloversville, Christopher Sartin of Broadalbin, N.Y., and Frank Carter Jr. of Bennington; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Linda Salvione, Yvonne Loomis, both of Gloversville, Jeannie Popp of Johnstown, Frances Older of Tribes Hill, N.Y., and Betty Young of Randall, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her parents; a son, Raymond Sartin; a brother, Florian Sollak Jr., and a sister, Judith Spencer.The funeral will begin with a prayer at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home followed by the Mass at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.
