Obituary of Joan Ward


Joan Ward of Tappan, NY died Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at home. She was 75. Mrs. Ward taught and was a librarian at the Pomona Junior High School in Pomona, NY. She was with the East Ramapo School District for 20 years before retiring in 1988. Mrs. Ward was born on August 22, 1932 in New York City to Arthur and Ona O'Connor Hickey. She was educated in Fair lawn, NJ and graduated from Fair Lawn high school in 1950. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in English from NJ College for Women (now Douglas) in 1954. She also received a Masters in Library Science from Queens College in 1968. Mrs. Ward lived in Tappan for the past seven years. Before that, she lived in Pearl River for over 30 years. She constructed cryptic cross word puzzles as a hobby and was published in "Games" magazine. She was a volunteer at Nyack Hospital and in literary work for the foreign born. She was also a member of the Pearl River Library Book Club. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert; daughter, Susan Sullivan and husband, Mark of San Francisco; son, James O'Hea of the Bahamas and stepson, James Ward and wife, Jean of Prescott, AZ. She is predeceased by her daughter, Carol. Visiting is Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Inc. A Memorial repast is 1:00 pm Wednesday at 'Madelein's Petit Paris' in Northvale, NJ.
