Joan-Muriel Stuart, spouse of Jim Stuart, died on January 6, 2014. Please consult the obituary here:
Joan passed away at home in the early hours of Monday, January 6, 2014 surrounded by her family who will dearly miss her. She was predeceased by her husband Jim (James Duff), and sisters Betty and Peggy. She is survived by daughters Anne, Kathy, Jane (Paul) and son Jim (Michelle), grandchildren Damian, Terra, Lindsay, Katie, Kevin, Taylor, Braden, Jay, Ian Tiana, and great-grandchildren Lacey, Jaron, Carson and Cohen. Joan was born in Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver with her family during her first year. She was raised in Kerrisdale and graduated from Magee High School. She married Jim in 1950 and they moved to Port Alberni where their four children were born and where they met some of their life long friends. In 1961 they moved to North Vancouver and became active in the Capilano Winter Club, Gyro Club, the North Vancouver Curling Club and the Deep Cove Yacht Club. Joan had a successful career in human resources management and the insurance industry but her family life was her passion. She was a dedicated wife, an amazing mom, a fun-loving grandma and a dear friend to many. Joan had a zest for life. She adored her grandchildren and rarely missed any of their soccer games, hockey games, track meets, concerts, recitals or graduations. Joan was a fitness buff and remained active throughout her life from curling in the 60's and 70's to aerobics in the '80's to kick-boxing in the '90's. She loved swimming in the local waters, especially Indian Arm, and sailing with Jim aboard the "Bugle Boy". She loved her time at Sunshine Falls, Iron Bay, and her many trips to Mexico "where the sun comes out everyday". Joan had a flare for fashion and took pride in always looking younger than her age but she will be remembered most for her youthful outlook on life, her boundless energy, warmth and wit. Special thanks go to Joan's devoted caregivers. She loved you all very much! There will be a Celebration of Life for Joan on Saturday, February 1st, at the Deep Cove Yacht Club, 4420 Gallant Ave., North Vancouver at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow. "She knew how to love and she knew how to live!"
