AYOTTE, Joan Mary (Rudston-Brown) 22 October 1923 - 16 February 2009 Joan Ayotte, much loved mother, friend, grandmother and great- grandmother, died gracefully age 85 at the May Court Hospice following a brief illness. Born in England to Jesse (Taylor) and Charles Rudston - Brown, Joan served as a plotter in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during WWII. She married her beloved husband Alfred in 1942 and came to Canada as a war bride settling in Ottawa in 1959. Joan joined Carleton University Library where she became head of the bookbinding department. Blessed with an infectious "joie de vivre", she led life to the full with a passion for the arts by volunteering at the School of Dance and being a valued member of Friends of English Theatre (NAC) and a local book club. She served the community as a Save the Children volunteer and, as a breast cancer survivor, she offered support to newly diagnosed women. An enthusiastic traveler, Joan traveled throughout Europe and to Russia, China, Colombia, Egypt and Panama. She possessed a remarkable gift for friendship with people of all ages. Pre-deceased by her husband in 1984, Joan is survived by her children Susan (Shadreck), Roger (Wendy) and Wendy, by her grandchildren Vanessa (Paolo) and Amanda (Scott), Chris (Cathy) and Irene and by great grandchildren Diego, Clyde, Yasmine and Lauren as well as many beloved friends from the Lakelander, FET, book club and Carleton Library. Family and friends are invited to the Beechwood National Memorial Centre of Beechwod Cemetery, 280 Beechwood ave, Ottawa, on Monday, February 23rd for the visitation starting at 10 am followed by a celebration of her life at 1 pm. Grateful thanks go to the staff at the Civic Hospital and the May Court Hospice and for those who wish, a donation to the May Court Hospice will be greatly appreciated.
