KEANE, Joan Frances (nee Brown)1926 - 2015Peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at her home, with family at her side. Joan faced life with a deep faith, quiet strength and a spirit of optimism, joy and gratitude. Predeceased by her beloved husband Lieutenant Colonel Hank Keane, and her dear friend and companion of the past ten years, George Perrin. Cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to: son Brian, his daughter Stephanie Keane and her son, Sebastien Renaud, Joan's first great grandchild, and her mother Yvonne Cox; son Barry; daughter Mary-Anne Kirvan, her children Ryan Kirvan (Caroline Markiewicz), Dr. Alexandra Kirvan and Anne Kirvan, and their father Myles Kirvan; Dr. Jane MacNaughton (Dr. Don MacNaughton), their children Kaitlin Corrigan (Patrick Corrigan), Iain MacNaughton, and their youngest son Jonathan MacNaughton taken much too soon; Carolyn Franzoni (Mauro Franzoni) and their daughter Lauren; Nancy (Paul Bowie) and their daughter Katherine Bowie. Treasured daughter of George and Vera Brown (nee Mooney), Joan was also deeply loved by her brothers George Brown (deceased) and his wife Irene, Bobby Brown (deceased), and John Brown (deceased) and his wife Marilyn. She held a special place in the hearts of Hank's brother Cully (Joan), and his other now deceased brothers and sisters: Arthur Keane, Mildred Kennedy, Peggy Snider, Larry Keane, Anna Keane, Lindy Keane, Doreen Tarrant, and Aidan Keane, and was a very dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Always appreciative of her childhood friends from Sandy Hill, Joan treasured and nurtured friendships old and new, across Canada and abroad, and at all stages of her life. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Basil's Parish, 940 Rex Avenue (at Maitland and the Queensway) on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Shepherds of Good Hope or the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, or an act of kindness in Joan's memory, would be most appreciated by the family.
