Joan Clark Morris passed away on May 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Needham, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Flynn) Clark. Joan grew up and spent her school years in Needham, graduating from Needham High School in 1951. She was a graduate from Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing and earned her R.N. Certificate. After marriage, she moved to Springfield, MA followed by another move to Longmeadow, MA where she and her family lived for 20 years. Joan left the work force to become a homemaker and caretaker for many years. When her 3 sons were young, being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts of America was most enjoyable. Later she volunteered for Meals On Wheels and frequently visited patients at a local nursing home. During her childhood and adult life, Joan looked forward to beach activities with the children at her family’s summer residence at Antassawamock, Mattapoisett, MA. She enjoyed swimming, boating, sailing, golf, gardening and taking photos of nautical subjects. After her sons were grown, cruising and traveling to many countries was very rewarding. For several years she looked forward to her yearly visits with her sister, Mary to Key West, The Vineyard and Nantucket. Joan returned to the work force and was employed by the City of Springfield as a Public Health Nurse for 13 years. After retiring she volunteered at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam. She was a former member of the Mercy Hospital Guild and the Field Club of Longmeadow. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam. She had not been active in the community for the past 8 years due to illness. Joan was a friendly, kind and generous person with a big heart who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her. In 2012 Joan donated her circa 1943 Girl Scout uniform to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History after they expressed an interest in it. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Clark in 1988 and her sister, Mary Barclay in 2014. She leaves her sons, Michael Morris of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas Morris of Fitchburg, MA and Matthew Morris of Long Island, NY; 2 adoring grandsons, Brad and Ben Morris, also of Long Island, NY; a niece and 3 nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, May 13th from 5-7PM in Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. Joan’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 14th in Colonial Forastiere funeral home at 10AM. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Joan’s memory may be sent Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation, 348 Glen Rd., Weston, MA 02493. For more information please visit: www.forastiere.com.
