JOAN C. SMITH ITHACA - Joan C. Smith, age 79 of Ithaca, a retired factory worker at Wilcox Press, died Friday July 2, 2010 at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. She is daughter of the late Harold and Mary Cox. Mrs. Smith was married to Richard Owen Smith until he died in 1954. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers especially roses. After she retired from Wilcox Press, she worked for several years at Coddington Child Care Center until 2006. Survivors include her three daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Wayne) Smith- Johnson, Paula May (Philip) Molitor, and Cynthia Jo (James) Pinkard; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Sandy) Cox, sister-in-law's Joyce Cox, Gladys Hulbert (Leroy Turbox), Evelyn (William) Brown several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her three brothers, David Cox, George (Inez) Cox, Harold "Dutch" Cox and a sister, Emily (Bill) Gray. A Graveside Service will be at King Cemetery on Saturday at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to the VFW Post 960.
