Joan C. Shea, 82Beloved Sister and Aunt LEOMINSTER -- Joan C. Shea, 82, formerly of Fitchburg, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at Sunrise Assisted Living after an illness.Joan was born in Fitchburg, on September, 2, 1931, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Buckley) Shea. She graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1948. She worked for Crocker Burbank - Weyerhaeuser - James River until her retirement in 1991. Miss Shea was a member of St. Camillus de Lellis Parish where she volunteered for the parish and Bishop's Fund for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her yearly ski trips to New Hampshire with her nieces and nephews, many of whom she taught to ski. She liked to travel, including trips to Cape Cod and Ireland. Joan cherished her Irish heritage. She leaves her sister, Mary U. Murchie of Leominster; ten nieces and nephews, Margaret Greenwood of Gardner, Noreen Cleary of Grayslake, IL, Katherine Cannon, Thomas Cleary, Eileen McGrady and Kevin Cleary all of Fitchburg, Robert Murchie of Hopkinton, Brian Murchie of Westminster, Barry Murchie of Fitchburg and Mary Beth Jokela of Leominster. She also leaves many special cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. Joan was predeceased by her sisters Eleanor T. Cleary and Elizabeth A. Shea.SHEA -- The Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St Bernard's at St. Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic St.Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Saturday from 9am to 10:30 am.
