MITCHELL _ Mrs. Joan Barbara, was born to Doctor Sidney Gordon Chalk and Nurse Ivy Adelaide Chalk (nee: Barter) July 25, 1926, in London, Ontario, Canada. Joan died at home peacefully, September 19, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was raised and educated in Ontario and graduated in May 1947 as Gold Medalist in the Faculty of Arts (Psychology). She married Professor Charles Lindsay Mitchell, May 24, 1947, and the family moved to Vancouver in 1952. Joan is survived by her loving children; Doctor Ian Lindsay Mitchell, Teacher Lee Elizabeth Mitchell Rogers, Loving Son Christopher Gordon Mitchell, Teacher Guy Alexander Mitchell, Earth Scientist Garry Rogers and Fitness Trainer Margaret Anne Makepeace. Joan is cherished by her loving grandchildren; Colin Alexander Mitchell, Kristin Elizabeth Mitchell, Erin Elizabeth Mitchell Rogers, Timothy Colin Mitchell Rogers, Daniel Steven Mitchell Rogers, and Samantha Lindsay Makepeace Mitchell. Her passions were her children, her friends, bridge, gourmet cooking, reading, world travel, and the cabin in the Cariboo. The family would like to express their special thanks to the Dr. P. M. Beveridge, Dr. A. Chalmers, Dr. S. H. Isserow, Dr. N. J. S. Voss, and Nurse R. Tuyp, whose excellent medical and nursing care allowed our mother to have a full and robust life, and a death, without pain or anguish.
