He was the husband of Verna Cheek Carter.He was the son of the late Winfred L. Carter and Catherine H. Carter Hatley. He retired from Cryovac after 42 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are a son, Richard (Leslie); a daughter Cathy; four grandchildren, Olivia (Sal), Jameson, Andy and Cassidy; two great-grandchildren, Maleigha and Macelynn. He was predeceased by an infant son, Edward Lewis.Graveside services with visitation will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cannon Memorial Park Mausoleum, officiated by Rev. Chuck Pace.
