Jessie Mae Watkins, affectionately known as "Punkie Lee," was a native of DeLand, born to the late Jessie Lee and Thomas Harverson on Nov. 3, 1930. She attended Volusia County Public Schools and graduated from Euclid High School as valedictorian Class of 1948. She had a personality that embraced the world. Although she will be truly missed as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, we humbly respect our Heavenly Father's decision to call her home, where she is now at peace with her husband, John J. Watkins, parents, and daughter, Teresa Milfort. Jessie, with her loving embrace for mankind, was employed for more than 50 years as a cook, domestic worker and elder care provider, and, after reitrement, devoted her time to various church and community activities and her family. In her younger years, she did volunteer work at Starke Elementary School. She was a lifetime member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and was an active deaconess, Circle #1, pastor's aide, Helping Hand Guild, choir member, and she loved prayer meeting. Jessie leaves cherished memories of her life's legacy with her two daughters, Sara (David) Boyd, Boynton Beach, and Paulette (Keith) Smith, Lake Helen; son, Calvin Watkins, DeLand; 10 grandchildren, Maurice Watkins, Kevin Woody, Jennifer Richards, Danesha Lacey, Angel Woody, Joy Millings, Sharod Milfort, Shavis Milfort, Keith Smith Jr. and Jeriah Woody, 10 great-grandchildren; a devoted cousin, Brenda Hobbs; special friends, Minnie Elliott (walking partner), Margaret Williamson, Dorothy Corley, Johnnie Mae Thomas, David Lane, Ann Morris, Jane Reynolds and Maggie Dunn; and a host of other loving relatives and devoted friends. Arrangements are under the anointed care of Unity Funeral Home at 340 South Woodland Blvd., DeLand, FL 32720 (386) 740-1891. "Serving God while serving you is what we do."
