Obituary of Jerry-William Davis


DAVIS Jerry William Davis, 66, of Jacksonville, FL went to be with the Lord on August 20th, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife Judy; his son Jerry, Jr and his wife Candice of Ponte Vedra and their two sons Cameron and Colin; his son Troy and his wife Julianne of Jacksonville and their son Jake and daughter Rylianne. He is survived by his brother Gene. He also leaves behind Brian Felder and Kevin Havixbeck, special friends who shared his love of flying. Jerry was born on May 24, 1944 in Jacksonville, FL. He remains close friends with his fellow classmates from the Andrew Jackson High School Class of 1962. He served in the Florida National Guard while earning his Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from the University of Florida in 1968. Jerry was a precious husband, beloved father, and dearly loved grandfather as well as a community leader. In 1981 he co-founded Davis & Weight, which later became Computer Management Sciences, Inc., with his long time friend and business partner Anthony Weight. He served as CEO for many years and was admired and respected by all who worked with him. After the company went public and was later sold, he dedicated his time and resources to serving his community as a business leader and philanthropist. Jerry and his wife Judy co-chaired the Raising Hope Campaign to construct a new state-of-the-art cancer hospital at the University of Florida. The hospital opened in October 2009. He served as chairman and as a lifetime member of the board of directors for the University of Florida Foundation. He also served on the board of directors for JaxPort, Shands Hospital, and Gator Boosters. He was a Bull Gator and was given the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Florida. Jerry served as a deacon at First Baptist Church Jacksonville living a life that revealed his love of Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 pm on Tuesday, August 24 at First Baptist Church, 125 W. Ashley St. in Ruth Lindsay auditorium. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held 11 am Wednesday, August 25 at First Baptist Church, also in the Ruth Lindsay auditorium, with Dr. Mac Brunson presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University of Florida Foundation for Shands Cancer Hospital Fund in memory of Jerry W. Davis, PO Box 14425 Gainesville, FL 32604.
