Jeannette-Marie Richard, born in 1912, spouse of Raymond Richard, daughter of Alphonse and Marie, died on October 30, 2012 at 99 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
TAMPA, Fla. - Having embraced her ills with enviable determination, optimism, good humor, and ultimate acceptance, Jeannette Marie Richard, "Jan," peacefully succumbed in her home at Brighton Gardens in Tampa, Fla., on Oct. 30, 2012, following a short but terminal decline at the age of 99, less than three weeks shy of her 100th birthday. The fourth child of Alphonse and Marie (Aubert) Renaud, Jan was born in Somersworth, N.H., on Nov. 16, 1912, moving to Dover with her family at the outbreak of World War I. She graduated from Dover schools, and as a young woman during the Depression, she worked both as saleslady and bookkeeper for a women's apparel shop. Jan met her future husband, Raymond, while both were fundraising to rebuild Saint Charles Church. They conducted auctions, fairs and, best of all, plays, with Jan discovering that she had a talent for acting. They married in 1936, raised and educated their five daughters, and lived in Dover, for the most part, until their relocation to Florida in 1981. Before her retirement, Jan had been employed for many years as a highly regarded travel agent at the Richardson Agency in Dover, becoming vice-president of travel at the merged R-W Agency. Jan had many interests including golf, fishing, dancing, crocheting, current events, movies, crossword puzzles, card playing and reading. She also was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. A passionate fan of both the Tampa Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, she seldom, if ever, missed a televised game. Above all, however, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. Jan was a singularly thoughtful, generous and self-effacing individual. Throughout her long life, she taught by example that one must give of oneself. While in assisted living, her active concern for others never waned, and there she established a movie club, a poker club and a bridge club. For these and countless acts of kindness, Brighton Gardens recognized and celebrated her at the age of 97 with their Volunteer of the Year Award. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Raymond R. Richard; her parents; her brothers, Edward, Valmore, and Paul; as well as her sisters, Lillian Fournier and Ida Carignan. Over the course of her many years, she mourned the loss of several nieces and nephews. Jan will be greatly missed by many, including her daughters (affectionately and collectively referred to as REMNA) and their husbands. They are: Roberta (Duane) Norris of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Elaine (Donald) Manguson of Tampa, Fla.; Martha (Paul) Cox of Dover, N.H.; Natalie (Danford) Wensley of Rochester, N.H.; and Anne (David) Paris of Hooksett, N.H. She is also survived by one brother, Rene Renaud, of Newburyport, Mass. The passing of their beloved "Mimi" has saddened her 12 adult grandchildren in whose lives and successes she evinced an abiding interest. She also leaves 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jan's demise will also be felt by three particularly dear and devoted friends, Gerry Tennerelli, Merle Wallace and Jan Krauser from her beloved Saint Timothy's Parish, as well as her "family" at Brighton Gardens. Friends may call Saturday November 24th from 8:30 to 9:30 at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Parish of the Assumption, St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut & Third Sts., Dover. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery. After the burial there will be a time of fellowship at St. Mary Parish Hall, Chestnut St., friends are invited. The family wishes to thank the supportive staff at Brighton Gardens, as well as the compassionate providers of LifePath Hospice. Those who are planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation in Jan's memory to Chapters Health (LifePath Hospice) 12973 North Telecom Highway, Temple Terrace, FL 33637, or Brighton Gardens, 16702 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33618.
