->WATERVILLE -- Jeannette Karter-Hallock, 85, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Woodlands in Waterville.Jeannette was born in Quebec on April 17, 1921. She spent her early years in Augusta, where she attended local schools. In 1941 she married Jibryne "Gubby" Karter Sr. in Waterville, where they made their home for most of their married life until his death in 1972. She moved to Bellows Falls, Vt., in 1973, residing in that area for the next 25 years. In 1980 she married Archibald "Archie" Hallock, who predeceased her in 1983.A talented hairstylist, Jeannette worked in her profession for many years, both in Maine and in Vermont. She will be remembered for the many kindnesses she extended to all who's lives she touched.A woman of deep faith, she gave freely of herself to those in need. She had an abiding love of all things bright and beautiful. Her flair for color and design was reflected in her clothing and her wonderful flower gardens. In addition to gardening, her hobbies included knitting, sewing clothing for herself and her family and home decorating. She also enjoyed the many travels with her children. Over the years, Jeannette brightened up each neighborhood in which she lived with her illuminated Christmas displays. In her home, each holiday was cause for celebration, decoration and family get-togethers. Her large extended family was always her paramount concern. A person of boundless energy, she enjoyed her life to the fullest. She will be missed.She is survived by her companion, John M. Joseph, with whom she made her home. Also surviving are her 10 children, Carol Cota and son-in-law Hugh of Bellows Falls, James Karter and daughter-in-law Mona of Marco Island, Fla., Mary Elliott and son-in-law John of Bellows Falls, Jibryne "Gubby" Karter Jr. of Waterville, Elissa Karter of Naples, Fla., Alfred Karter and daughter-in-law Nancy of Fairfield, Joseph Karter and daughter-in-law Deborah of China, Jan Bourque and son-in-law David of Winslow, Karl Karter and daughter-in-law Roxanne of Keene, N.H., and Jeffrey Karter and son-in-law Scott O'Brien of Waterville; 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St.,Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, May 8, at St. Joseph Maronite Catholic Church, Front Street, Waterville. Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.Condolences may be expressed at http://www.gallantfh.com.
