->WEST GARDINER -- Jeannette A. McKenna, 73, of West Gardiner passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Nov. 25, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Graybirch, Augusta.Jeannette was born on July 20, 1935, in Gardiner, daughter of Edward and Mercy (Young) Berry. Jeannette grew up and attended school and worked locally all her life.Jeannette's passion in life was her love for her family. She enjoyed many special holidays and "sleepovers" with her beloved grandson, Dustin. Jeannette was very talented in crafts, especially knitting, and provided many hats and mittens for her grandchildren. Most recently, while living at Graybirch, because of her love for other people she knitted and gave away prayer shawls to people who needed comforting.Jeannette was predeceased by her husband, Roland L. McKenna, on Aug. 4, 1988; her sisters, Olive Berry and Mary Grant; and brother George (Sonny) Berry.She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Filling, of Temple; two sons, Mark Lavallee and his wife, Roberta, of Augusta, and Paul Lavallee, of Gardiner; four daughters, Susan Furlong and her husband, Duane, of West Gardiner, Pam Merrick, of Augusta, Jayne Morang and her companion, David Sobus, of Chelsea, and Janet McKenna and her companion, Eric Prosser, of Gardiner; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many very special nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to visit at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Church of Nazarene, Brunswick Avenue in Gardiner, where a celebration of Jeannette's life will take place. A private burial service will be held at a later date.The family would like to thank Dr. Brassard; Susan Crockett, an angel in Jeannette's life that was always there for her; Sandie Kaiser; Betty Armstrong and Pam Palmer, for their compassion and caring in Jeannette's final hours; and the rest of Graybirch's truly wonderful staff, for their excellent care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the activities fund at Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Graybirch, c/o Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
