EAST KINGSTON -- Jeanne G. Higgins, 86, formerly of Hampton, died Nov. 5, 2008, after complications from pneumonia. She was born in Boston on Dec. 2, 1921, to James H. and Ruth G. (Hilton) Glidden. She moved to Hampton in 1955 from Arlington, Mass., with her late husband, John F. Higgins, whom she met while serving as an assistant chaplain in the U.S. Navy during World War II. For many years, she and her husband, who died in 1986, owned and operated the Hampton Flower and Garden Shop. After selling the shop, she worked at the Ocean National Bank. She then worked for eight years at the Department of Housing, UNH, retiring in December of 2004. Mrs. Higgins was a member of Christ Church, Episcopal in Exeter, and was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampton. She was past master of the Ocean Side Grange in Hampton, the Gilman Grange in Exeter and the East Rockingham Pomona Grange. She also was a member of several other organizations. Family includes daughter Helen P. Higgins of Boston, several nieces and nephews; and Carolyn J. Ross and Donald R. Ross of East Kingston, with whom she had been residing for the last 18 years. SERVICES: There are no calling hours. Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Christ Church, Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter, followed by a reception at Harris Hall. Relatives and friends are invited. Private interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
