Obituary of Jeanne-Allman Betty


Betty Jeanne Allman died April 15, 2007, in Branson, Mo. She was born September 20, 1944, in Front Royal, Va., the daughter of Jeremiah and Marie Atkins, and grew up in Culpeper, Va. She attended the University of Virginia at Richmond, attaining a degree in nursing. She obtained her license as a registered nurse and began her career at Fairfax General Hospital in Virginia. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Donald Atkins and Dickie Atkins; and a sister, Mary Alice Hoffman, all of Culpeper, Va. Betty moved to Branson, Mo., in 1972 with her husband Gary and son Todd, and shortly thereafter gave birth to son, Geoffrey. Step-son, Christopher and his wife, Amanda, were welcomed and their two sons, Justin and Nicholas, were her joy an delight. Betty worked in Skaggs Hospital for several years, giving of her talents as nurse and caregiver. She was involved in her church and many community activities. As school nurse in Blue Eye, she took a deep interest in caring for children, and later continued her love for children as a school nurse for several schools in Springfield. Recently, she found joy and fulfillment as a hospice nurse. She was a true servant and worked heart to the heart with her patients. Betty attended night classes at Missouri State University, obtaining a bachelors degree in nursing in 1994. her concern for children led her to initiate and organize the first Project Graduation event at Branson High School in 1987. She was active in the Presbyterian Church of Branson, teaching school, developing a Bethel Bible Study program and participating in the Steven Ministries. She had a deep care and concern for people and continually ministered to those in need. She had a tender nurse's hand, and all her patients felt her sincerity and love. Betty was a tireless worker, never turning anyone down. She gave of herself until her departure. She is also survived by husband, Gary Allman; sons Todd Allman of Springfield, Geoffrey Allman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; step-son Christopher Allman of Clever, Mo.; and two grandsons, Justin Allman and Nicholas Allman, both of Clever. She leaves many friends, acquaintances and former patients who will remember and deeply miss her. Betty is now at peace with the Lord. Memorial donations can be made to Community Hospices of America in Branson. Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 18, in Greenlawn Funeral Home, Branson.
