Jeanne A. (Ethier) Sirois -- Of Boston, MA & Van Buren, ME, 98, died Sept. 16, 2005 at a Newton, Mass. Hospital. Jeanne Alice Dupont was born on August 6, 1907 the oldest child of Charles-Emile Dupont and Elodie Brunelle in Ste. Hermenegilde, Quebec. After her marriage in 1933 to Henri A. Ethier of New Hampshire, they settled in upstate New York for a few years then moved to Maine in 1936. In 1943, Henri and Jeanne purchased a grocery store on Main Street, Van Buren, Maine owned by the Watsons. They affiliated it with IGA and operated it until 1957 when Jeanne sold the business to the Saucier family of Eagle Lake, Maine. Henri died in 1949. She married her neighbor and good friend, Wilfred Sirois (d. 1956) in 1953. Jeanne moved to Boston in 1957 to attend Miss Fanny Farmers School of Culinary Arts, at age 50, graduating with honors and taking a job as chef at the Tavern Club, an exclusive private club for upper class Bostonians with familiar American names. She worked there until her retirement in 1982 at age 75. She is survived by her two daughters Mariette Ethier McGarry, esq., her husband John W. McGarry, esq., of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Rachel Ethier Rosenbaum, and husband Peter D. Rosenbaum of Auburndale, Mass., two grandchildren, Dr. David Henri Rosenbaum of Chicago and Joel Conrad Rosenbaum of Auburndale, Mass, as well as nine brothers and sisters all in Quebec province, Canada. She was loved by all who worked for her and with her for her sense of humor, her ethic of hard work, and her feisty nature. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., VAN BUREN, from 9 AM until time of service on Tues. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributrions to the Carroll Center for the Blind, 770 Centre St, Newton, MA 02458. Published in the Boston Globe on 9/18/2005.
