Jean P. (Peck) Smith, 85, of Thomaston, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Alfred C. Smith. She was born in Waterbury on Nov. 26, 1923, daughter of the late Kenneth H. and Thelma (Griffen) Peck. She lived most of her life in Watertown, spent three years in Cape Cod, and then moved to Thomaston in 1988. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and attended Post Jr. College. She was a bookkeeper at RJ Black and Son in Watertown until her retirement and was a member of Watertown United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Friends of the Watertown Library and a volunteer at the Book Nook. She enjoyed interior design and had a flare for decorating. Besides her husband of 57 years, she leaves two daughters, Deborah G. Capristo and her husband Richard, of Southington, and Diane S. Menard and her husband Peter, of Plantsville; her brother, Kenneth "Pete" Peck Jr. and his wife Joan, of Oakville; five sisters, Grace Dunn and her husband Joe, of Ohio, Joyce Bridgman and her husband Clark, of Rhode Island, Poly Thompson and her husband Bob, of Colorado, Myra Peterson, of Brookfield, and Joanne Potter and her husband Bert, of Torrington; her sister-in-law, Barbara Peck, of Watertown; two grandchildren, Jesse Capristo and Jaci Menard; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth McMahon, and two brothers, Stanley "Buddy" Peck and Frederick "Ricky" Peck. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Watertown United Methodist Church, 305 Main St., Watertown. Burial in Evergreen Cemetary is private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
