Jean N. (Finch) Smith, of Hingham, age 85, passed away Nov. 11, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Jean grew up in both Littleton and South Boston and later lived in Weymouth for 37 years before moving to Quincy. She worked as a banquet waitress for Local 26 for over 30 years. In the early 60s Jean was an active advocate for womens rights and union memberships, traveling to Washington D.C. to lobby for them. She was a avid reader and loved to travel and also loved to play scrabble and spend time with her family. Beloved wife of the late George R. Smith. Devoted mother of John J. Smith and his wife Joanne of Weymouth, Alice H. Bos and her husband Alfred of Hingham and Jean N. Menice and her husband Paul of Maine. Loving sister of the late Gilbert Sonny Finch. Cherished grandmother of Jonathan, Joseph, and Victoria Smith, Molly, Joseph and Nicholas Menice. Visiting hours were on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 4 - 8 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.) Relatives and friends gathered in the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 10 a.m. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1 p.m. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Alzheimers Assn., MA Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
