Obituary of Jean-N. Jackson


Jean N. Jackson of Winder passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012. She was born on July 27th in Ft. Myers, FL to Charles M. Niblack and Ruth Lanier Niblack. Her childhood was spent in Ft. Myers, FL and Jefferson, GA. After graduating from North Georgia College she moved to Winder where she was employed as a secretary with a local manufacturing company. In 1946 she met Royce A. Jackson and they married later that year. Jean and Royce owned and operated Jackson Ready Mixed Concrete Company located in Athens, Commerce and Winder. After the business was sold in 1981, they continued their commercial rental business in Athens and Winder. They also spent many memorable weekends at their lake house on Lake Rabun and were members of the Lake Rabun Association. Jean and Royce were avid golfers and members of the Athens Country Club since the 1970's. She was an active member of the Women's Golf Association and continued playing with her group until this past year. Jean was an active member of the Winder Sunbury Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the First Christian Church of Winder. Royce, her husband of 53 years, preceded her in death in 1999. Her brother, Charles Niblack, preceded her in death in 1967. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Royce Steven Jackson and Dottie of Winder; a son, Michael Roy Jackson of Athens; and a daughter and son-in-law, Jane Jackson Donald and Robert of Athens; grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson, Mitch Donald, Sarah Donald, and Mary Grace Donald; sister and brother-in-law, Beth N. Wilson and Robert of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte N. Patterson and Joel of Cleveland, TN; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Winder. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated or, in lieu of, donations may be made to the Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200 Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502 Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
