Jean N. Higgins STOUGHTON Jean N. (Simpson) Higgins, a 50-year resident of Stoughton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center, in Brockton. She was 71. She is survived by her children, John Higgins and his wife Lorienn of Taunton, Richard Higgins of Brockton and James Higgins and his wife Sandra, also of Brockton. Jean was also the mother to the late Michael Higgins and grandmother to the late Richie Higgins and Ashley Higgins. Also survived by her former husband, John S. Higgins; eight grandchildren; and several close friends. Born April 17, 1937, in London, Mrs. Higgins was an only child of the late Peter and Nora (Sullivan) Simpson. She attended public schools in Ireland and moved to the United States after graduating from high school. Mrs Higgins graduated from the Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in the late 1970s. She was a registered nurse at Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Jamaica Plain for over 30 years, working in the N.I.C.U. She was also a nurse coordinator for the Kidney Transplant Unit. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Her funeral will be held from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk St., Stoughton, Monday, Nov. 3, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 12 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, with the Rev. Joseph P. McDermott officiating. A visiting hour will be held prior to Mass, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
