Obituary of Jean-M. Watson


ObituaryJean Margaret Watson, of Fort Myers, FL, died Jan. 23, 2001 at Cypress Manor Nursing Home. Ms. Watson was born July 5, 1908 in Littleton, ME, the daughter, Frederick and Mary (Appleby) Watson. Ms. Watson graduated from Ricker Classical Institute and Colby College. She received her Masters in Mathematics from Columbia University. After graduating from Colby, she was an inspiring teacher to many students at the following schools; Island Falls High School, Ricker Classical Institute, Ricker College, Emma Willard in Troy, NY and at Williams Memorial Institute in New London, CT. After her retirement, she moved to Fort Myers, FL where she organized many Colby Alumni functions, and she enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She was a trustee at Colby and a was a member of the Alumni Council. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Gerry of Brewer, ME and Fort Myers, FL. She was a favorite aunt to Raymond Flanders, Ruth Flanders, Anne Gassett, Jean Collett, Laura Watson and Andrew Watson, and a special cousin to Ethel Ferguson. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Flanders, and a brother, James Watson. A memorial service will be held in March in Fort Myers, FL. A spring interment will be in Utica, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Colby at the Office of Alumni Relations, Colby College, 4000 Mayflower Hill, Waterville, ME 04901.
