Jean Murray Johnson passed from this life to her eternal rest at the age of 98 on Monday, August 4, 2008, at 12:25 a.m. Jean was born February 21, 1910 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Vera Killer Murray and Stewart Murray. Her parents were Canadian citizens at the time of her birth.Ms. Johnson graduated from Winchester School, a private school in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1927.In January 1930, she married Charles Gibbs Johnson in Pittsburg after which they moved to Waynesboro, Virginia and later to Greenville, South Carolina in 1945.Ms. Johnson was a charter member of the Greenville Woman's Club of which she was President from 1963 to 1965. She was Trustee, Chairmen of the Trustees, and served on various committees. She was a member of the Crescent Community Club and the Crescent Literary Club, having served as President and Secretary of the latter club.In past years, Ms. Johnson worked at the Shrine Hospital and the Greenville General Hospital. She was a long-time member of Fourth Presbyterian Church.Jean Murray Johnson was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles Gibbs Johnson in 1997. Also preceding her in death were her brother, A. Stewart Murray; and her dearest friend and caregiver for many years, Suzanne Thaler.Surviving Ms. Johnson are Suzanne's daughters, Amy Caroline Brewer and Kathryn Jean Eriksson; Suzanne's husband, Joseph Thaler; her nieces, Kathleen Murray Allain, Marilyn Murray and Andrea Murray Goo.Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Clyde M. Gaffney Mausoleum after which Ms. Johnson will be laid to eternal rest with her husband, "Charlie", whom she so dearly loved and missed.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E.
