JAMES Jean Ellen (nee Mackie). Our beloved 'bonnie lassie', passed away while fighting a brief battle with cancer in the morning of Thursday, August 26, 2004. Jean was born August 29, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Allan and Nellie Mackie. Shespent much of her youth in the areas of the Village of Beaver and town of MacGregor where her maternal grandparents, after immigrating from Scotland, farmed. When not at the farm, her Winnipeg home was first at the home belonging to her paternal grandparents who had returned to Scotland. Jean and her parents later moved to St. James. After her school years, Jean worked for the Canadian National Railway. Her vacations were spent traveling abroad. She loved to travel. Across a crowded room at the 'Tip Top' club for tall people, a tall, dark and handsome man won the heart of the tall, beautiful blonde. Jean and Gordon married, settled and raised the family in St. James-Assiniboia. Jean would fill the home with the sound of her piano playing. She played it beautifully. Jean also had an interest in gardening. She was a member with the St. James Horticultural Society. In the mid 1970's, the family moved to Victoria, B.C. Jean worked for the Correspondence Branch of the Department of Education. She enjoyed being twirled around the dance floor with the Square Dancing club, 'Spares & Pairs'. Throughout her life, Jean was a follower of Christian Science and was a member of the Mother Church and the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Winnipeg. Mum, you were so loving, caring and oh so giving. You always were there for us a helping hand when needed. A great detective when we couldn't find things, you always knew what to do andwhere to look. You had a smile and hug when we needed it. Thank-you Mum, for your being who you were. We will always love you and never forget you. Jean will be always held lovingly in the hearts of her 'Wub' Gordon; daughters, Donna Lynn andBrenda Jean; grandchildren, Richard, Jason and Shayni; son-in-law, Steve Curtis; the 'puppies', Bogart and Taffy and the rest of the family and friends. We wish to thank Drs. Duke, Rusnak, Ross, Wong and Singh and the nurses at VGH for Mum's care. 'Thank-you' to those for 'being there' for us. Mum requested no service. Cremation by McCall Brothers Funeral Directors Ltd. Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A gathering with family and friends will take place at home on Saturday, September 11th from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm.
