CHESTER - Jean Anne Johnson, 86, died Jan. 21, 2012, at Springfield Hospital. She was born July 6, 1925, in Proctor, the daughter of Harry Truman and Isabelle Agnes (Knight) McCutcheon. She graduated from Chester High School. On Feb. 1, 1947, she married Ernest Johnson, who died in 1975. Mrs. Johnson was employed as a machinist at Bryant Grinder Corp. and Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield during the war years. She was a mother and homemaker and after her husband died, she was employed at Servomation in North Springfield for several years. She was a member of Advent Christian Church in North Springfield. She was an animal activist, helping and donating to animals, as well as a supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed cooking and gardening. Survivors include three children, Gary Johnson, Theresa Stewart and Cynthia Hall, all of Chester; five grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by four siblings, Calvin and John McCutcheon, Frances Henry and Harriet Briggs. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Advent Christian Church in North Springfield, where friends may call from 1:30 p.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Floyd McIntyre. A gathering will follow at the church. Burial will be at a later date in North Street Cemetery in Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Advent Christian Church, PO Box 21, North Springfield, VT 05150; or Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
