PODEYN - Jean Anderson, 86, born on November 1, 1921 in New York City, NY, passed away on May 8, 2008. She grew up in Queens, NY. After high school and Miss Dunbar's School, she worked in New York City as the Assistant Secretary for the President of AT&T. She met and married Herbert Podeyn on December 4, 1942. In 1962, the family moved from Levittown, NY to Southold, NY. Some of Mrs. Podeyn's favorite hobbies included gourmet cooking, playing bridge, reading, gardening, camping, and traveling. She also had an appreciation of the fine arts, museums, and going to the symphony. Because she loved her pets and all animals, she enjoyed being a part of the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Southold. Mrs. Podeyn volunteered and was part of many organizations. She worked with the Southold Board of Elections, was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years, and volunteered at the Southold Free Library, and Southold Historical Society. She was also a member of Hollis Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Southold Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, Mrs. Podeyn was a Sunday School teacher and held other positions at the First Church of Christ Scientist in Southold, NY. In 2002, she moved to Houston, TX in order to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Herbert, her parents Erik and Martha Anderson, her brother Robert Anderson, her sister Betty Hepburn and her friend and companion Reginald Adams. Mrs. Podeyn is survived by her three loving children, Jill of Houston, TX; Debra of Sandwich, MA; and Eric of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
