Janie L. (Parrish) Smith-Nichols, 76, Springfield, born to the late William J. and Darthula E. (Gray) Thompson, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Janie was a 1948 graduate of Sparta High School and lived in the Rogersville area for many years where she raised her family and was active in the community. She was always an active church member, joining Charity Baptist Church later in life, where she served as secretary/treasurer. She went on to nursing school later and received her LPN in 1963. She was employed with Cox Medical Centers for over 30 years at both North and South, and retired in 1995 as Supervisor of Central Service. She was united in marriage to Paul Nichols on June 14, 2003. Janie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roland Parrish and Howard Smith; two brothers, Carmen and Clarence; and three sisters, Alta, Elsie and Betty. Survivors include her husband, Paul, of the home; four daughters Lisbeth Perez and husband, Paul, Anita Conner, Jacqueline Roberts and Marietta Young; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hagerman and husband, Delmar; numerous other loving relatives; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007, in the Rivermonte Chapel of Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2007, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, MO 65804.
