Jan was born on Feb. 19, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late Fredrick Sanders and Helen (Woodstock) Sanders. Jan was raised in Upper Darby, PA, graduating from Upper Darby high school and eventually receiving a master degree in education from Penn State University. In the late 1960`s, she and her family moved to Groton Massachusetts, where she taught history at Lawrence Academy prep school for many years. Upon retirement, she moved to Dunedin where she was very active and past president of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tarpon Springs. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Tree House Thrift Shop in Dunedin. She is survived by her son, David Riffelmacher and his wife, Sandra; granddaughter, Amanda Wilcox and her husband, Raymond; two grandsons, Erik Riffelmacher and his wife Joanna, Matthew Riffelmacher and his wife, Emma; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Wilcox, Maya Wilcox, Lila Wilcox, Drew Wilcox and Eloise Riffelmacher; as well as many dear friends. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by Rev. Wes Stevens at the Tarpon Springs Community Recreation Center, 400 South Walton Ave., Tarpon Springs on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 pm. In lea of flowers, please make donations to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tarpon Springs. Funeral arrangements are provided by Curlew Hills Funeral Home.
