Janet C. Stewart 1923-2013 Janet C. Stewart STEWART JANET C. … 24th, November, 2013, peacefully at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, in St. Andrews, NB. Born in Glasgow Scotland 31, May, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Charles Watson and Janet (Ross) Stewart. Emigrating to Blacks Harbour in 1954 she joined Connors Bros., Limited and was employed as Private Secretary to Dr. Allan M.A. McLean for many years until his death in 1969. After moving to St. Andrews in 1980 she acted for several years as Editorial Assistant to Huntsman Marine Laboratory. A golfer of note with the Algonquin Golf Club, she was also instrumental, through the Women’s institute of Black’s Harbour, in establishing one of the first hard court tennis courts in Charlotte County. A veteran of World War ll Janet served from 25 April 1941 with W.A.A.F. at a number of R.A.F. stations until discharge as Cpl (432699) on 26 March 1946: awarded Defence Medal and Imperial War Medal 1939 … 45. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Passamaquoddy Lodge # 8. Janet is survived by her brother James A. Stewart (Janet) of St. Andrews, NB, sister … in … law Jean Stewart, Cheltenham, England, brother … in … law Eric Laws, Leeds, England; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Dan and her sister Penuel Laws. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A celebration of her life may be held at a later date in St. Andrews. The family expresses heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care and kindness given, for close to five years, by the dedicated staff of Passamaquoddy Lodge. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charlotte County Cancer; Hospice of Charlotte; or charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
