Quincy Janet Burke Mann, age 75, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at her home, the former estate of her great-grandfather, Quincy business leader, Theophilus King. She is the daughter of the world class photographer, the late Roydon Burke. Ms Mann was a graduate of Milton Academy and Bennington College. As a young woman, she was a concert pianist and competitive sailor in Star class racing craft. She was a guitarist, fine artist and an accomplished singer with an encyclopedic knowledge of English and Celtic folk songs as well as the American folk tradition. For several years, her home was the venue for acoustic concerts called Music in the Mansion. Her estate will be used to establish the Janet Mann Foundation for the Arts to benefit deserving students. She is survived by friends and family, among them her lifelong friends and surrogate family, Stephen Rapson of Boston, Stephanie Pearson-Lynch of Stoughton, and Mark Rapson of Easton. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon in the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center. A private burial service will take place at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Janet Mann Foundation for the Arts, c/o Stephanie Pearson-Lynch, 58 Pinewood Avenue, Stoughton, MA 02072.
