Jane McDowell, 71, widow of John Lester McDowell Jr., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at her home.Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Hardy Gilreath Turner and Lura Mae Gilreath Turner. Mrs. McDowell was a graduate of Winthrop College, was a homemaker, was a hostess of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of Jackson Grove United Methodist Church.Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Gossett, and her husband, Michael; granddaughters, Meghan and Taylor Bowling; brothers, Gilreath Turner, and wife, Margaret, and Wayne Turner; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a son, Robert Lex McDowell; and a brother, Delmas Turner.Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at Jackson Grove United Methodist Church.The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Jackson Grove United Methodist Church.Memorials may be made to Epilepsy Foundation, South Carolina, 652 Bush River Road, Suite 211, Columbia, SC 29210-7537.The family will be at 688 Jackson Grove Road, Travelers Rest, SC 29690.The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest, is in charge of arrangements.
