Jane Davis, born in 1938, daughter of W. R and Dorothy, died on July 4, 2005. Please consult the obituary here:
The gates of heaven opened on Monday, July 4, 2005, and the angels rejoiced as Jane Davis left this earth to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral will be today at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial will be in MountOlivet Cemetery. Jane was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Waco, Texas. She was the middle daughter born to W.R. and Dorothy Wyatt. Her early childhood was spent in a loving Christian home with her sisters, June, Jean, Jessie and Joan. There was always laughter at family gatherings as the sisters gathered together to remember their growing years. Her dad was a Baptist preacher and Jane always loved to hear him preach. She embraced the Baptist faith, accepted the Lord as her Savior and led a life that was exemplary of her strong faith. Prayer for her family, her friends and her church was a daily part of Jane’s life. After graduating from high school in Fort Worth, Texas, Jane married Buddy L. Davis on June 4, 1956, whom later became Decatur City Schools Superintendent. Through their married years, Jane was a source of strength and encouragement as two young married adults returned to college to further their education. Jane attended and obtained her bachelor of science degree from TCU and later attended Stephen F. Austin, where she graduated with her master’s degree in English. Many students in the Fort Worth, Richardson, Arlington and Pine Tree school districts were blessed to have this dedicated teacher. In 1993, Jane was nominated for the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award. She was one of 10 semifinalists selected by a panel of independent judges from nearly 800 winners and more than 10,000 nominees in 156 communities across the United States. Her selection was for a tutoring/counseling program aimed at helping parents and students in low-income communities. Jane went door to door inviting parents to come to the weekly tutoring/parenting classes. The response was termed overwhelming and many additional volunteers were recruited and additional classes offered to accommodate the turnout. All of this came after having been bedridden from illness only a couple of years prior to initiating the program. Four children were born to the marriage of Jane and Buddy Davis. Jane loved staying at home with her children during their early years. Her children were the loves of her life and her warm, loving, Christian example has been an inspiration to each of them. Her children, Wyatt Lane Davis, David Adam Davis, Amy Alise Davis Miller and Gina Davis Haines, were sources of immense joy and pride. During her long and courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor and subsequent dementia, Jane was an example of her faith, strength and belief in the power of prayer. In her 15 years of illness and debilitation, she was never heard to question why, to complain or to bemoan her fate. Her legacy of love will long remain after her departure from this earthly home. The family of Jane Davis wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Chandler Nursing Center, Legacy Hospice and the many other colleagues, friends and care givers for their excellent care and support during this difficult time. Those remaining behind to cherish the memory of Jane Davis include her husband, Dr. B.L. Davis; children, Mr. and Mrs. David Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Miller and Ms. Gina Haines; five grandchildren; her mother; sisters; and many friends and colleagues.
