JAMES WILEYMONTGOMERY1918 - 2008Mr. James W. Montgomery, age 89, of Pensacola, passed away Saturday, March 22. 2008 at a Memphis area hospital. Mr. Montgomery was born in Danville, Arkansas, in 1918. In 1937 he joined the U.S. Navy where he spent the next thirty years retiring as a Chief Bos'n Mate. He was assigned to Midway Island. Later he witnessed the fall of China to communist forces and took one of the last US ships out of Shanghai. He finished his career in Pensacola as the harbor pilot for the USS Lexington. Upon retiring from the Navy, Mr. Montgomery managed Osceola Golf Course, working there for the next twenty one years.Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by Turia (Mae) Gallier.Mr. Montgomery is survived by six children, Katie Fell of Tallahassee, FL, Mary DeMars of Pensacola, James D. Montgomery of Tallahassee, FL, Frank Montgomery of Lakeland, FL, Beth Parkins of Pensacola and Jeannie Christiansen of Collierville, TN. His surviving grandchildren are Michael Kimberl, Tricia Hollingsworth, John Parkins, Kati and Trey Chapman, Tyler Montgomery, Alex and Michael DeMars and Courtney, Carly and Thomas Christiansen. Funeral Service will be 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home.Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Parkway, is in charge of arrangements.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m.
